The United States Government firmly believes that Pakistan has the potential to become a strong and vibrant rural economy. As part of its commitment to the Pakistani people, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is striving to help Pakistan in every economic, human, and social aspect that enhances the quality of life of its citizens, promotes better living standards, and helps them achieve the income levels required to sustain these standards. Keeping in view the vital role of livestock & dairy sector in the economy of Pakistan, USAID is much aware that a well-managed project in the livestock sector focusing on small holder dairy farmers can result in 10 to 20 % increase in overall milk output coupled with subsequent increase in the income of this farming community.

The Dairy Project is a joint effort by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Dairy and Rural Development Foundation (DRDF) to foster sustainable increase in dairy and livestock productivity through adoption of best farming practices, breed improvement, availability of timely extension services, and promotion of livestock businesses. This is an innovative intervention in the rural social milieu, where the sustainable improvement of dairy and livestock sector coupled with economic growth of rural communities including women can be pledged.

University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore (UVAS)

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, is one of the oldest Veterinary Institutions in Asia. Since its inception in 1882, the staff of this Institution has worked enthusiastically and successfully to conduct a wide range of programs that have effectively catered the educational and training needs in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

In order to achieve the training milestones of the Dairy Project, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and the Chief Executive, Dairy and Rural Development Foundation (DRDF) Lahore, mutually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU),wishing to develop goodwill and to expand interaction for hands-on trainings and certification of master trainers to ensure that certified trainers are entitled to conduct further trainings for Women Livestock Extension Workers (WLEWs), Farm Managers and Artificial Insemination Technicians (AITs) in the field/rural areas of Pakistan; curriculum development, exams and certifications to trainees (AITs, Farm Managers and WLEW) and to provide support in the areas, where technical professional assistance will be required in the Project.

Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC)

PVTC is an autonomous corporate body established by the Punjab Government through the PVTC Act of 1998. Its mission is to alleviate poverty through Muslim charity (Zakat) and private sector participation by imparting demand-driven skills training and enhancing employability for disadvantaged youth.

Since Dairy and Rural Development Foundation (DRDF), established in 1996, provides a platform to create links between farmers, self-employedAI technicians, and dairy development agencies working for the dairy sector betterment in the country, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PVTC to collaborate for conducting trainings for Artificial Insemination Technicians at Vocational Training Institute in Burj Attari, district Sheikhupura.

Nestle Pakistan Ltd.

Nestle Pakistan is committed to investing in the lives of people who are associated with the rural and dairy sector. Nestle believes in providing best possible support to ensure capacity building of rural farming communities, to promote livestock business entrepreneurship through livestock skills development and food security at the household and community level. Nestle stands committed to the Dairy Project’s similar training efforts through its partnership with the Dairy and Rural Development Foundation (DRDF). Nestle is contributing through provision of technical support, and resource management to ensure better and timely implementation of the Dairy Project’s activities, especially in the field and at the policy level.
